Three members of a suspected child trafficking syndicate, including a 17-year-old girl, who sold her two-day-old baby boy for six hundred and seventy thousand naira, have been arrested by the Abia state police command.
State Commissioner of Police, Anthony Ogbizi, said this while briefing newsmen in Umuahia on the activities of the command.
Ogbizi also said that the command arrested no fewer than 22 other suspected criminals, following raids by his men in the wake of renewed criminal acts in different parts of the state.
Police say a Protestant pastor who was baptising followers near a lake in northern Ethiopia has been killed by a crocodile.
About 80 people were being baptised when Pastor Docho Eshete lost his life on Sunday morning, at the lake in Arba Minch town’s Merkeb Tabya district.
Police officer, Eiwnetu Kanko said residents and fishermen made a huge effort to save Pastor Docho but were unsuccessful.
US prosecutors have accused President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, of trying to tamper with potential witnesses ahead of his trial.
Robert Mueller, who is investigating alleged Russian election interference, said Manafort had contacted people related to his money laundering and tax fraud case in breach of his bail terms.
They are not connected with allegations of collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign during the US election.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Russia is not trying to split the European Union.
His remarks come ahead of a visit to Austria, his first trip to a Western European country in nearly a year.
He told Austria’s ORF station he wanted a united and prosperous EU, calling the bloc Russia’s most important commercial and economic partner.
